Wilbur Dean Skornia of Gerald, departed this life on Friday, June 10, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Washington. He had reached the age of 84 years, six months, and 13 days.

Wilbur was born in Tea, Missouri on November 28, 1931, a son to the late Irene (Cunio) and Charles Henry Skornia. Wilbur was married November 20, 1955 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Gerald to Arlene V. (Tegeler) Skornia. He was a long time member of St. Paul's UCC Church in Gerald and served as president of the church council. He proudly served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army and was on active duty in the US during the Korean War. Wilbur was proprietor of Donaldo Skelly Service Station for 38 years. He continued his business activity as a realtor until very recently with Koehn Real Estate. Wilbur was a member of the Gerald Lions Club Association for 51 years, the American Legion of Rosebud (Gerald), and the Missouri Realtor's Association. He was a fire fighter and Assistant Chief of the Gerald Volunteer Fire Department. Wilbur was one of the founders of Khoury Little League in Gerald and Manager of the American Legion baseball team for many years. Wilbur was elected to the Gerald Board of Alderman where he served as an alderman and then later served as its president for many years. He served three years as the Mayor of Gerald. He recently was a member of the City of Gerald Planning & Zoning. Wilbur was a member of Gerald Chamber of Commerce since its founding and was awarded the Pioneer Award. He was active in many other civic organizations. Wilbur most recently enjoyed the Freedom Flight to Washington, D.C. Thanks to everyone who assisted Wilbur in his recent goal to remain in Gerald.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene V. (Tegeler) Skornia, his brother-in-law John O. Tegeler and his sister Mabel Sue Skornia.

His survivors include; one brother, Vernon Skornia of Wildwood; two sons Mark D. Skornia and wife Jane of Ballwin; Paul A. Skornia and wife Gloria of Wildwood; and five grandchildren; Meghan, Anne, Nicholas, Daniel, and Lauren. Surviving brother and sister-in-law’s includes Ronald Weiskopf, Sharon Eggers, Mary Ann Tegeler, and Dr. Kent and Lisa Tegeler. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 18, 2016 at St. Paul's UCC Church in Gerald at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Glen Hollander officiating. Visitation will be Friday, June 17th at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Gerald from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Interment will be in the St. Paul's Cemetery at Gerald.
