Served in the 12th Kentucky Cavalry as a Captain of Company F.
Captured outside of Marion, VA, Dec. 16, 1864. The incident took place during "Stoneman's Raid" on Saltville, Virginia (Dec. 10-26, 1864) Captain Elms was held prisoner in Richmond, Virginia for the remaining months of the war. Adam Elms died the following year, presumably from wounds and desease he suffered during the war.
