Donald was born in West Monroe, N.Y. to Charles and Ina (Chase) Ames, residing in New York until moving to Marion in 1967.
Donald dedicated his life to the Lord and was a loyal member of the Nelson St. Wesleyan Church. Don was literally a master of all trades. He owned several businesses and held many positions, retiring from his last job at age 85. His Christian faith, work ethic and guiet strength were Don's defining characteristics.
Surviving family include his beloved wife of 67 years, Elsie Potter Ames, children, Ivan (Jan) Ames, Fla.; D. Edson (Janice) Ames, Ind.; David (Joanna) Ames, N.Y.; Melanie Ames, Marion; Cindy Boone, Calif; and Denise Ames, Gas City.
He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel in 1974; daughter, Marjorie in 2005 and a brother and sister, Douglas and Laura, both of New York. In addition to his children he had 18 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
