Laura A Porter

Laura A. Porter, 82, of 8358 Harwood Drive, Lacona, died recently at the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, where she was admitted Novemeber 5 after a long illness.
Funeral services were held at the Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek, with the Rev. Melvyh S. Connell, pastor of the Sandy Creek Wesleyan Church, officiating.

Contributions may be made to the Sandy Creek Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are three stepdaughters, Mrs. Elsie Muniz, Medford, Oregon; Mrs. Lila Scordino, Vestal; and Mrs. Iva Mortenson, Johnson City; a stepson Maurice Porter, Barnesville,S.C.; a sister, Mrs. Conrad (Lila) Ericson, North Chili; a brother, Donald Ames, Marion, Ind.; and several step-grandchildren.

A brother, Charles Douglas Ames, died before her.

Born June 26, 1908, in Morristown, daughter of Charles and Ina Chase Ames, she graduated from Sandy Creek High School and Houghton College, where she got her teaching degree. She taught school for 25 years at Barnes Corners, Redfield, and Stillwater, and retired from Orwell School.

She married Harrison E. Porter June 26, 1952. The couple lived all their married life on Demott St., Lacona. Mr Porter died November 7, 1981, at the age of 87. After his death Mrs. Porter moved to 8358 Harwood Drive to live with Mrs. Dicia Whipple.

She was a board member and Sunday School teacher at the Sandy Creek Wesleyan Church and a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association
