Sarah Fothergill was one of six children of Alexander Fothergill and his first wife Elizabeth, née Haworth.
She was born 29th September 1819, at Carr End, Semerwater, near Bainbridge, Wensleydale, Yorkshire. There are three small settlements near Semerwater: Stalling Busk, Countersett and Marsett. Carr End House is nearer to Marsett, but only Stalling Busk is on the FAG database. Carr End House belonged to the Fothergill family from about 1667 until 1841.
Sarah and her brother Thomas were the only members of Alexander Fothergill's family of eleven who did not go to America.
She was married at Darlington Meeting House, 23rd May 1850, to Arthur Thistlethwaite, grocer, of Sunderland, son of William Thistlethwaite, of Pontefract, Yorkshire.
She died at Hurworth 5th July 1885, and was buried at Darlington Friends' Burial Ground, on the 8th.
Arthur and Sarah Thistlethwaite had no issue.
