Armstead L. and Inez Barnes moved to Harvey County, Kansas in 1874, but returned to Kentucky the same year due to crop failure which was caused by an enormous invasion of grasshoppers in that area. Armstead and family returned to that same area of Kansas in 1884 and had a successful farm located near the small town of Patterson, later retiring in nearby Burrton, Kansas. Armstead, Inez, and daughter Mary are buried at Star Cemetery in Harvey County, Kansas.
