Dorothy Patterson "Dot" (Elrod) Owens was born on April 22, 1923 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, the daughter of Hubert Clay Elrod (1893-1965) and his wife Eloise (Patterson) Elrod (1902-1992).
She grew up in Murfreesboro and was married there on May 29, 1943 to William James "Bill" Owens (1918-2011), the son of Robert Seldon Owens and Ethyl Trina Hale Owens.
Dot was a stay-at-home mom who dedicated her life to her family with unconditional love and nurturing support. She worked tirelessly making sure that her husband and children had everything they needed. She was the consummate hostess and second mother to the friends and musical bandmates of her children. She had a natural ability to make people laugh and was loved by people of all ages.
After her children left the nest, Dot filled her time by working part time for the American Bankers Association in Nashville. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and spending time with her grandchildren, and she was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Dot was 93 years old when she passed away peacefully on June 20, 2016, eight years after moving from their longtime home in Nashville to live in the home of their daughter in Smyrna, Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Gloria (Elrod) Shinn, daughter Patricia Owens (who was not quite 2 weeks old when she died) and by her son Richard Owens. Survivors included a son; a daughter; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
A short Graveside Service was held in Evergreen Cemetery in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
