Detroit TV sportscaster from the 1960s to the 1980s. Coined the phrase "Bless You Boys" that became the slogan of the 1984 Detroit Tigers world championship season. Inducted into the Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.

Ackerman emphasized before his death that there be no memorial service. Instead, Ackerman requested:
"Take your family to a ball game."

Survivors include wife Terese Ann; two daughters; a sister-in-law and grandchildren.
