NORFOLK— James William Gainfort, Jr, 59, of the 1300 block of Brunswick Ave, and a retired Vice President of Harvey Lindsay Commercial Real Estate died July 2,1986 in a hospital.
He was the son of the late James William Gainfort, Sr and Dorothea Jesse Lapp Gainfort.
Mr Gainfort, born in Fayetteville, NC, was a long time resident of Norfolk, Va. He graduated from Granby High School and Denision University, in Granville, Ohio where both his mother and father had graduated and his grandfather had been a professor. He was a faithful and active member of the Episcopal Church of The Good Shepherd.
He was a past vice president of the Downtown Norfolk Association, past commander of the American Legion, post 335, and past Director of the Norfolk Board of Realtors, which in 1980 named him " Volunteer of the Year" . He was a member of the Tidewater Red Cross board of directors and the Norfolk Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Carr Ball Gainfort; two daughters, Betsy Ball Gainfort Worrell and Nancy Leigh Gainfort, both of Virginia Beach; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Gainfort Worrell of Virginia Beach.
The funeral will be conducted, Friday, at the Church of The Good Shepherd by the Rev John Sivley. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery
