Betty Carr Ball Gainfort, 86, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Hugh Tolan Ball Jr and Elizabeth Carr Ball. She was preceded in death, by her husband of 34 years, James William Gainfort, Jr. She married Edward V. Power in 2006 and is survived by him.

A native, and lifelong resident of Norfolk, she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She attended Sacred Heart Elementary School, Maury High School and Madison College. She was previously employed as Credit Manager at Addington Beaman and in her later years, as a Tour Director with Phillips Tours. She loved sharing the history of Norfolk and Williamsburg with visitors from out of town . She was a member of Margaret Roper Moss Circle of Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters.

To all those who knew Betty Carr, she will be remembered for her strong faith, devotion to family, love for her many friends, and graciousness towards everyone. There was a gentle strength in the way she met challenges.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Betsy Berry and Nancy Leigh Gainfort, her granddaughter, Elizabeth Worrell, sister, Anne Ball Addington, all of Virginia Beach and granddaughter Leighana Biddulph and great-granddaughter Victoria Biddulph of the United Kingdom; as well as her nephews and their wives, Clark and Suzanne Addington and Hugh and Julie Addington.

A Memorial Mass of The Resurrection will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, on Monday, May 20, 2013 at 2:30PM by Father Daniel Klem. The family has requested that anyone wishing to remember Betty Carr with a memorial gift to consider the service ministry programs at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 520 Graydon Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23507 or www.sacredheartnorfolk.org
