Bobby Joe Alford, age 79, died about 6:30 PM Monday, August 26, 1957, at his home on Mahr Avenue after a long illness. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. James Canaday of Jackson, TN, former pastor, officiating. Burial was in Mimosa Cemetery.
Mr. Alford was a native of this county, a son of the late Robert N. and Martha Edmiston Alford. He was for many years a member of the Lawrence County Election Commission and always took an active part in county political affairs. He was a retired merchant and livestock dealer at the time of his death. He had been a member of the First Baptist Church for many years and was very active in church affairs.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Estella Moore Alford and three sons; Roy B. Alford of this city, Edward Alford of Nashville and Clarence Alford of Lewisburg, Tennessee. He also is survived by seven grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren and by one sister, Mrs. Mattie Chaffin of Lexington, Tennessee.
