Dr. Mary Haywood Eady

Chesapeake - CHESAPEAKE Dr. Mary Haywood Eady, 75, transitioned to be present with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, April 27, 2014. Born to the late Lacey Haywood and Pastor Odessa Currie Haywood in Lumberton, NC. God blessed her with many gifts and talents, such as her beautiful soprano voice; her ability to play the piano, keyboards, and organ; and ministering.

Dr. Eady was a faithful and dedicated Elder of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Portsmouth where she served on the Christian Board of Education, Founder and Director of the Puppet Ministry, and Musician for the St. Mark Christian Academy.

Dr. Eady earned her Bachelor of Science in History and English at North Carolina A&T State University. She earned her Masters degree from Old Dominion University as a Reading/Education Specialist. And she later earned a Bachelor of Theology and a Master in Divinity from Richmond Virginia Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry from Beacon University.

Dr. Eady taught in the Portsmouth, Suffolk, and Chesapeake Public School Systems. She retired as a Reading Specialist from Indian River High School after 32 years of service. Dr. Eady was a member of various organizations such as the Tidewater Chapter of N.C. A&T State University Alumni Association "Aggies", Zeta Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi "Quettes", Hampton Minister's Conference, the Interdenominational Minister's Wives and Widows Alliance of Tidewater, Tidewater Metro Baptist Ministers' Conference, and Old Dominion General Baptist Association (ODGBA). She also served as an adjunct professor at Norfolk State University and Tidewater Community College.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her best friend and beloved husband of 54 years, Dr. Samuel Eady; two daughters, Dr. Tonya D. Eady (Chesapeake, VA) and Judge Karen Eady-Williams (Charlotte, NC); a son-in-law Darrel J. Williams, Sr.; and a treasured sister, Geneva Haywood Clark (Hyattsville, MD). She also leaves behind several nieces and a nephew. She leaves a host of other great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, students, church members, and community members, who will sorely miss her earthly presence.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014, at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, 2714 Frederick Blvd., Portsmouth, VA with a private family interment at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Chesapeake, VA. The family will receive friends from 4:30pm - 7:00pm on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at J.T. Fisher Funeral Home, 1248 George Washington Highway, Chesapeake, VA 23323. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family scholarship fund: The Eady Family Foundation, PO Box 6391, Chesapeake, VA 23323.
