Nancy was daughter of the Hon. Enos H. and Mildred Sheller Horst.

She was a member of the Lutheran church and was a choir member for 20 years.

She attended Chambersburg Schools and graduated with a B. S. in Elementary Education Secondary English from Shippensburg University. She taught in the Chambersburg Schools and was on multiple boards for education.

She worked with her husband as owner/operators of Horst Electric.

She was a member of the NSSDAR, Pennsylvania, Franklin County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Offices she held included Chapter Regent, Senior Society of the Falling Spring Chapter of Children of the American Revolution, PA State Vice Regent and PA State Regent, National Registrar General.

She was a member of the Rocky Spring Chapter of the American Colonists, holding many offices. Membership was held in the First Families of Franklin County. Membership was held also in many area Historical Societies.

Surviving her include her husband, Thomas H. Burkey, daughter Suellen A. Burkey, and granddaughter Annie Klebanoff.
