Abel Thomas is the son of Daniel Thomas and Maria Petra Sotera Garcia of Wagon Mound, New Mexico. His father, Daniel was from New York, by way of Indiana and eventually New Mexico.

Daniel’s wife, Maria was the daughter of Antonio Jose Enrique Garcia and Anna Maria Luisa Rael. All the children of that marriage were born in Belen.

Abel had one known sibling; a sister, Ysabel Thomas.

Juana Maria “Susana” Garcia, my Great Great Grandmother was the younger sister to Abel's mother. When Juana passed away during childbirth, leaving her husband a widower with young children Daniel and Maria were the witnesses to my Great Great Grandfather’s 2nd marriage. This event is documented in Church records in Wagon Mound.

Abel married in 1898, his wife was Teodora, her father’s first name was Santiago. They all lived with Abel’s mother and are recorded in the 1900 Census as living in the same home. Abel is also listed in the 1880 Census with his parents, Daniel and Maria.

Abel’s first wife passed away before 1903. In 1904 he remarried; the 1910 Census shows this is his 2nd marriage. Her name was Elizabeth Q, records show she was born in New Mexico as were both her parents.

Abel had two children with Elizabeth, a daughter Nancy Thomas (1905- ) who married Eleseo Gonzales and a son Eufracio Thomas (1908-1947) who married Piedad Rivera (1908-1995).

There is some belief that he did have a daughter with his first wife Teodora. We have the records of her life, but without Christening records that name Abel and Teodora are not able to document it officially in the lineage.
