Axpin was a Native American girl born at ranchería Yelamu in the San Francisco Bay area. She was an 8-year-old orphan when she was baptized and assumed her Christian name Clara at Mission San Francisco (Dolores) on August 28, 1777 (SFD Baptism 00016). Clara died at the mission and was buried in the mission cemetery on July 26, 1796 (SFD Death 01006).
