In 1921, Joe Darilek of Orland, California placed an ad in the Bohemian newspaper "Svornost" for a wife of Bohemian ancestry. Kristina, a widow of 14 trays and with all of her children grown, answered the ad and Joe responded favorably. She set out on a train for Orland, California with he daughter, Christine (age 19). On September 26, 1921, Kristine married Joe Darilek in Red Bluff, Tehama County. Kristine was 4; and Joe was 39 years old at the time of their marriage.
