Another beloved Mille Lacs county
pioneer answered the final summons
when Mrs. Mary Jane Vernon
succumbed to Bright's disease at
her home in this village Sunday night
after a lingering illness.
Funeral services were conducted
this morning from St. Edward'a Cath-
olic church and interment was in Oak
Knoll cemetery.
Deceased, whose maiden name was
Mary Jane Skiffington, was born in
Erie, Pennsylvania, on July 22, 1855,
so at the time of her death was 61
years and 9 months old. She was
united in marriage to Alexander
Vernon, who departed this life
thirteen years ago, in October
1903. Thirty-five years ago
Mr. and Mrs. Vernon came to Minnesota,
and lived in Minneapolis five years.
They came to this county and settled
on a farm in Greenbush 30 years ago.
The past three years Mrs. Vernon
has lived in this village. During her
long residence in this county Mrs.
Vernon proved herself to be a kind and
considerate lady of Christian ideals.
As a neighbor, wife and mother she was
all that could be desired.
Eleven children—two sons and nine
daughters—survive her, viz:
Mrs. Elizabeth (Alvin) Bemis, Ronneby; Mrs. Joe
Bergeron, Mrs. Margaret (Abe) Bergeron and Miss
Ida Vernon, Alberta, Sask., Canada;
Miss Catherine and Jack Vernon, Mrs. Agnes Lulu
(Earl) Henschel, and Misses Anna, Lillian
and Jessie Vernon of this vicinity.
