He was born in Seaford, DE and graduated from Seaford HS after attending his junior year in Chicago. He was a member of St. Peters Church in Lewes, the Delaware Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and a member for over 30 years of the Kennett Square Golf and Country Club.
Burt Allen began working for the Diamond State Telephone Co. in Wilmington. He then became an insurance agent for the Travelers Insurance Company and was a founder of the Allen Insurance Group, located on West Ninth Street in Wilmington. He retired in 1974. One year, he was honored nationally for his sales with the Travelers and won the golf club championship at Kennett Square Golf Club.
His wife, Jane (Hazeltine) of 65 years died February 28, 2002. He is survived by his sons, Samuel B. Allen, Jr. of Bakersfield, CA, W. Bradley Allen of Wilmington; and daughter, Bonnie Corwin of Claymont; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
Services will be held on Monday, July 29 at 11 am at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville (Rt. 202, south of Silverside Rd.), where friends may call 1 hour prior. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Seaford
