Son's obit:

Eric James Colohan, 94, of Richmond, died peacefully in his home on July 6, 2016. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude A. Colohan; son, Michael Eric Colohan; daughter, Mary Kathryn Colohan; three brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his sister, Annamarie; 10 children and a large, loving, extended family.

Born in Elizabeth, N.J. in 1921, Jim joined the U.S. Navy in 1941, serving with distinction for 20 years as a Chief Petty Officer/E7 during World War II, the Occupation of Japan and the Korean War.

Jim and his wife, Gertrude, were happily married for 59 years. After settling and raising their family in Richmond for 39 years, Jim and Gertrude retired to Louisa County in 1995. Jim returned to Richmond in 2012 to live with his daughter, Annie Norman. "Sunny" Jim loved the natural world, especially the Eastern Bluebird, as well as music, railroads and the Catalina PBY sea plane, and above all, golf. He was known for his wise council and ability to fix any machine, as well as for his warm, easy-going nature and razor-sharp Irish wit, which remained with him to his last days.

The family will receive friends at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 10, 2016, with an 11 a.m. memorial service at Bliley's-Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., Richmond, Va. 23228. Graveside services will be held later in the day at 1:30 p.m. in Greenwood Memorial Gardens, 12609 Patterson Ave., where he will be laid to rest next to his wife, son and daughter. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to A Grace Place Adult Care Center, Richmond, Virginia. "And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me."
