During WWII, Sgt. Kolecki was a member of K Company, 311th Infantry, 78th Division and served in the European Theater where he earned a Purple Heart.

Walter Kolecki, 75, of Marysville, died Tuesday, October 31, 2000, in his home surrounded by his family. He was born March 3, 1925, in Hamtramack to the late Peter and Emily Bieda Kolecki.

Mr. Kolecki retired after 30 years as a draftsman for Chrysler Defense Corp. He served in the US Army during WWII and received three bronze stars and the Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. Mr. Kolecki enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and golf. He traveled extensively.

Mr. Kolecki is survived by his sister, Frances Hackewicz of Marysville; two nephews, Doug Hackewicz of Marysville and Howard Hackewicz of Roseville; a niece, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph (Laura) Peters of Waterford; and two great-nephews, Bryan and Kyle Peters.

A funeral service will be held at Friday, November 4 at 11:00 a.m. in the Marysville Funeral Home. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. in White Chapel Memorial Cemetery, Troy.
