Probably Fort Covingrton's oldest life-long citizen passed away when Thomas Arthur Dupree, Sr., peaceably breathed his last Friday noon after a pleasant morning with his family. The sudden death has come as a terrible shock to his family. He was born here 87 years ago when our village was called French Mills. His father, Francis Dupree was one of the founders of this ville. Mr. Thomas Dupree is the last of a family of thirteen children of the pioneer. For nearly two years Thomas Dupree, Sr. had a business in Michigan but the home call near the old Salmon river brought him back to live a long life as an honorable, progressive citizen with many friends. Hard work, night study and a keen mind made his business a success, first as blacksmith, then butcher, later farmer; finally retiring a few years ago when his health began to fail. In civic life he served many years efficiently as assessor, collector and corporation trustee. Mr. Dupree married Christie Hart of St. Hyacinth, Que., who died a few years ago. The following sons and daughters survive: Mrs. Levi Derouchie, Thomas, Jr., William, Francis, Ezra, Elizabeth and Harriet of Fort Covington and Mrs. Joseph Gadboia of Cornwall, Ont. The funeral services were held at St. Mary's church Tuesday morning, interment at St. Mary's cemetery.
