Beverly Mae Nelson was born on May 11, 1931 in Toronto, SD to Ralph and Lydia (Mathison) Nelson. She was raised and received her education there, graduating from Toronto High School. Following high school Beverly continued her education earning her teaching certificate at General Beadle Teachers College in Madison, SD.
On December 25, 1950, Beverly was united in marriage Ronald “Ron” Odell Lokken in Toronto, SD. The couple moved to Rapid City, SD in 1954, while Beverly taught in a country school. After moving to Brandon, SD in 1960. Beverly worked as a clerk at the Brandon Rexall Drug store for over 20-years retiring in 1989. Ronald died on February 15, 2010.
Beverly has been a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls since 1959. She enjoyed watching all sports; especially cheering for the Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Links, and the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. She also enjoyed crocheting and playing cards. Above all, Beverly cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared her life are two sons: Ryan Lokken of Kennewick, WA, and Mark (Sandy Milner) Lokken of Brandon; two daughters: Marla (Paul) Vanderlinde of Brandon, SD and Wendy (Jay) Bryant of Jordan, MN; son-in-law, Brian Schelhass of Sioux Falls, SD; nine grandchildren: Tim Lokken, Eric Vanderlinde, Adam (Monica Jagerson) Vanderlinde, Tyler (Leanne) Williamson, Jamie Lokken, Cameron Boy, Tiffany Spykerboer, Kelly Lokken and Cailey Bryant; eight great-grandchildren: Taylor, Bailey, Hunter, Gage, Grady, Logan, Jaxson and Bryce; two brothers: D. Arlen (Doris) Nelson of Shakopee, MN and Larry (Janet) Nelson of Denver, CO; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Beverly is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Lydia Nelson; husband, Ronald Lokken; two daughters, Cheryl (in infancy) and Leanne Schelhaas; two brothers: Orville Nelson and Roger Nelson; and one sister, Louene Bloedow.
