Hattie Belle Patterson was born November 24, 1882 in Harper County, Freeport, Kansas to John and Louisa Taylor Huffman. Hattie Belle Patterson died December 24, 1972 at Willow Lake Hospital, Long Beach, California. She was united in marriage to Frank Patterson at Anthony, Kansas, in 1894. To this union was born six children; Hugh Victor in 1902, Viola Dorothy in 1905, Merlyn Christopher, Leo Ray, and Bettie Frances in 1924, Infant boy (that was stillborn and buried on the Patterson Homestead in Major County, Oklahoma). Her husband preceded her in death in 1951.
The Pattersons lived 30 years or more at Stafford, Kansas. When they lived at Coldwater, Mrs. Patterson was an active member of the Christian Church. She took a part in the women's activities, often having these meetings in her home. She is remembered as a pleasant and happy person.
In her golden years, living at San Diego, California, Mrs. Patterson was a very active person. She participated in many of the activities of the Senor Citizens and took trips with Senor Citizens. Only in the last three years or so has she had to curb her activities. In October of 1972 she broke her hip and has since been hospitalized.
Survivors include a son, Leo, Fallon, Nevada; daughters, Mrs. Viola Rust, Buena Park, California, Mrs. Pat McIlveen, Long Beach California; brother, Ray Huffman of Long Beach, California; five grandchildren, and four great greatgrandchildren.
Graveside services were conducted December 30, 1972 at Crown Hill Cemetery, Coldwater, Kansas.
