T R was actually Thomas Robert Carter.

This writer of his bio is related and the creator of his memorial.
The story of T R relationship to the Whiteheads
T R did not know about his relationship to his adopted parents Cora Whitehead. T R was given up to the Whiteheads there in Childress Tx, after his mother Elizabeth Carter passed away. It is said that his father Samuel Carter could not take care of him, due to the fact that he had so many children to take care and was certainly over whelmed with another child. So Cora stepped in and saw the situation, for she was Samuels first cousin in the first place. The cousin connection was from Samuel's father side ( James N. Carter ) sister Louisa ( Carter ) Newberry, Cora's mother. It was said to me by Francis Curry that she to never knew the connection nor did she think that her father never knew him self. But she did state that it makes since, for early in his life he had a crush on Cora's daughter, and made it a point to discourage their relationship if all possible. Then at what point did T R ever knew that he was in fact a Carter. ?
After his mothers passing in 1909, Samuel's oldest son Carl stayed behind to take care of the arrangements to transfer their mother back to Tennessee, as the rest of the family moved out right away for Tennessee as well.

For those that don't know, that T R 's line can be followed on this web site to the Mayflower descendants to six passengers through the Tilson family that came from Massachusetts to Virginia's boarder with Tennessee, then crossed over to Tennessee
