Served as Private in Co H 23rd GA Infantry, enlisting Aug 31, 1861 at Walker Co, GA. Also served in 2nd Confederate Engineer Troops as an Overseer on James Island (St. Andrews Parish, Holmes House) fortifications.

Was wounded by gunshot on Jun 4, 1864 and sent to Danville, VA hospital. Returned to duty Jun 10, 1864.
