PRIVATE Girret Kersbergen, Rock Valley, Ia.
(reference GA note at birth in his family bible and the entry by Anna when Garret died), died 01 October 1918 of meningitus in France while serving in WWI. Garret was listed in the military death archives as "Girret Kersbergen Rock Valley Iowa". In the Kersbergen bible G. A. wrote Gerardus when he was born, Anna wrote "Gerrit" when he died. His headstone name in Rock Valley, Sioux County, Iowa Hillside Cemetary is spelled Garrit.
Garret is buried in Rock Valley Hillside cemetery in the family plot. When his body arrived the men tried to remove it from his casket but it was too difficult it being screwed together very securely. (source; Evelyn Anna Kersbergen Richter)
