His father, Edwin Hall Marks, was a member of the USMA Class of 1909.
His brother, Willard Ainsworth Marks, was a member of the USMA Class of 1944.
His awards included the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, two Purple Hearts and the Combat Infantryman Badge.

He was the son of Edwin H. Marks Sr. and Margaret Ainsworth Marks.
On August 31, 1946, he married Mildred Orra Ashmore, daughter of James Houston Ashmore, at the residence of her uncle, Harry L. Holmes at Bakersfield, California.
After their honeymoon at Los Angeles, California and Carmel-by-the-Sea, she returned to join her parents in San Antonio, Texas and he was assigned to temporary duty in Alaska.
They were the parents of three children.

During World War II, he served 20 months with the 88th Division in the Mediterranean Theater.
