George J. Halbleib

WaKEENEY --George Joseph Halbleib, 80, died Wednesday at Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 24, 1905, on the family farm in southeast Trego County, to Joseph ad Victoria (Zeller) Halbleib. He married Hilda Herman May 1, 1928, in Ellis.

He was a farmer and cattleman all his life and retired to WaKeeney in November 1983. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, McCracken. He was a 4-H and Extension leader and had won awards for his soil conservation practices.

He and his wife were avid square dancers and were members of the McCracken Ramblers and the WaKeeney Shirts and Skirts square dancing clubs.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; four daughters, Rosann Felder, WaKeeney, Rita Issinghoff, Wichita, Joan Rupp, Greeley, Colo., and Judy Kingry, Toronto, Canada; three sisters, Mary Moos, WaKeeney, Annie Kreutzer, Greeley and Sister Gabriella Halbleib, Salina; and 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ the King Catholic Church, with Father Paul Bequet officiating; burial in St Mary's Cemetery, McCracken. Friends may call at Hendricks Funeral Chapel from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and after 5 p.m. at the church. A liturgical prayer service will be at 8 p.m. Friday at the church. The family suggests memorials to the organ fund at the church, the St. Mary's Cemetery fund or Trego County Hospice.
