John Anthony Meis, 95, of Greeley, CO, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at GracePointe Senior Living.

He was born February 15, 1927 in Wallace, KS to Margaret and Joseph Martin Meis. John grew up on a cabbage farm.

John was married to Betty Lou Sandau until 1975 and then married Violet May Huggans in 1976. They were married until her passing in 2012.

John enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII and served as a Deckman on the Minesweeper, USS YMS-274. John was a founding member of Hill-N-Park Senior Center and of St. Mary Catholic Church.

For 30 years, John worked as a Glazier at A&M Glass and Harding Glass. He loved to tinker and enjoyed fixing things. All the kids in the neighborhood knew where to go when they had a flat tire. John was known as "The Tire Guy". John loved spending time with his family and volunteering.

He is survived by his daughters, Sherri (Mike) Zuhlke of Greeley, Linda Viertel of Troy, NY and Beverly (Kevin) Barnes of El Cajon, CA; step-son, Billy Nevill of Troy, NY; brother, Gerald (Jeannie) Meis and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Margaret, four sisters, his wife, Violet Meis in 2012, his former wife, Betty Lou Sandau in 1981 and two infant sons, Gary and Randy.

A Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 West 28th Street, Greeley. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 2, 2023 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 2222 23rd Avenue, Greeley. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. There will be a reception to celebrate John's life at the Hill N Park Senior Center at 1:30 p.m., 4205 Yosemite Drive, Greeley.
