This family has a very strange connection. Charles married Elizabeth Ingram, his niece, the daughter of Sarah Speer. Elizabeth Ingram's mother was Charles Speer's half sister Sarah Speer, or maybe three quarter, Sarah's mother was Elizabeth Vanderveer and Charles mother was Ruth Vanderveer. Elizabeth and Ruth were sisters. I hope this is not to confusing, it took me a while to figure it out. I guess this was not unusual back in their time period.
Charles and Elizabeth were married in Scott Co., Virginia in 1836/1837. They were the parents of Lafayette, Francis, Manerva, Jacob, Sarah, Sirena, Mary, Robert, Goodson, and Allen.
After the death of Charles Father Joshua Benjamin Speer. they left Virginia stopping over in Indiana for a couple of years then a few years in Missouri and Iowa, they settled for the remainder of their lives in Kansas.
They are found in 1875 records and can not be found in the 1880 census.Charles died Oct. 29, 1879 which is recorded in his will and probate records and these records state there is no widow at the time of his death. Elizabeth's death date is unknown at this time.
