OBITUARY: The Vandalia Leader, Audrain Co. MO, Thurs., May 13, 1909, p3, Death of David Pike. David Pike, who had a stroke of paralysis some 3 (?) ago died Sunday. For the last 10 days, he had been unconscious, and had taken no nourishment in that time. The funeral took place this afternoon at 3:00 at the Baptist church conducted by Rev. Luke Kirtley, assisted by Rev. Matthews. The funeral will be under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge, Mr. Pike having been a member of this order since 1876, a period of 33 yrs. The interment was at the Vandalia cemetery. Mr. Pike was born in West Jefferson, OH in 1834. And moved from Barry, Pike Co., IL to MO in 1869, & lived most of the time at Perry, Ralls Co. In 1883 he retired from farming and moved to Vandalia, where he has since resided. Mr. Pike was an honest and sincere man, of irreproachable character. His hearty sincerity made friends universally for him and a wide circle will mourn for him and give loving sympathy to his family. Mr. Pike leaves his wife, and 2 sons, by his first marriage, W.J. & A.L. Pike, both of whom live in Seattle. Mr. A.L. Pike came in 10 days ago and was here when his father died. Other relatives from a distance were: A.L. Pike & W.J. Pike, of Wash., Prof. J. Pike & wife of Jerseyville, IL, J.A. Smith & wife, of Laddonia, Allen, Howard & Geraldine Smith, & Miss Elsie Day of Laddonia, Alex Hamilton, Barry, IL, Mrs. J.W. Hall, Wellsville, Ray Landrum & family of Laddonia, & Mrs. Will Wright & daughter of Perry.

DEATH: The Vandalia Leader, Audrain Co. MO, Thurs., May 13, 1909, p2, In the death of David Pike, Vandalia loses one of her oldest & best citizens. Mr. Pike was a fine gentleman and his kindly face & sturdy figure will be greatly missed. The Leader extends sincere sympathy to the bereaved family..
