Son of John and Veronica (Smolinski) Kapala in Presque Isle County. Eugene proudly served our country with the United States Army from 1943 until 1946. He served in several campaigns which included Bismarck, Archipelago, Southern Philippines and Luzon. He was decorated for his career campaign involvements with a Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with 3 Bronze Battle Stars, Bronze Service Arrowhead, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, and two Overseas Bars. After serving he was married to Marie Wrobel on February 18, 1950 in Detroit, MI. Together they raised six children while he earned a living as a welder. He loved playing cards, gardening, and the out of doors. He called Our Lady of Hope Church in Clare his place of Worship, and has called Lake his home since 1984, coming from Sterling Heights. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 65 years, Marie, five children; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, brother Chester Kapala and sister Martha Wertz. He was preceded in death by a daughter Cheryl Ann Burrow.
