Sister Catherine was born to Lawrence Deevy and Margaret Kelly Deevy on June 9, 1917 in County Kilkenny, Ireland. She entered the Sisters of St. Dominic on January 14, 1934, at St. Joseph Convent, Jamaica, West Indies. She received the Dominican habit on October 7, 1934, professed her first vows on October 8, 1935, and final profession on October 7, 1938.
Sister's many years of active ministry were devoted to the sick as a registered nurse. She ministered for forty-three (43) years, 1934-1977, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Kingston Jamaica, West Indies. In 1977, Sister Catherine returned to St. Dominic's Convent, Blauvelt, New York, where she continued her ministry as a nurse in St. Martin de Porres Infirmary until 1993. From 1993-1999, Sister performed volunteer services in the infirmary and convent and assisted the sick when and where needed. Due to ill health, Sister retired to the St. Martin de Porres Infirmary in 2001 where she remained until her death.
In addition to her religious congregation, Sister Catherine is survived by her nieces, Brigid Daly of County Cork, Ireland and Margaret Denny of Waterford, Ireland as well as her nephews, Larry and Michael Lyng of Kilkenny, Ireland. She was predeceased by her sister, Sister Teresa Deevy of the Blauvelt Congregation as well as her sister, Josie Lyng and her brother, Thomas.
