Jabez Foster's family came from England and went first to Missouri. Then they went to Ohio, to Tennessee, and back to Ohio, perhaps near St. Mary's, OH. The following obituary gives several details about him and his family:
" Jabez Foster / An Aged and Highly Esteemed Citizen Passed to The World Beyond, Sunday Morning. / Jabez Foster, after a prolonged illness, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Josh Peart, on West Walnut street, Sunday morning. The funeral, conducted by Rev. C.E. Turley, took place from the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Peart Tuesday afternoon. / The deceased was born in Statfetshire, England, and on his last birthday, June 15, 1912, was 85 years of age. His wife, to whom he was married in their native land in 1849, passed to the world beyond on April 26, 1894. Her death occurred in Toledo, but interment took place in the Shawnee cemetery. Mr. Foster came to this country in 1864, locating for awhile in St. Louis, Mo. He was among the very first to locate in Shawnee forty years ago, and erected one of the first buildings on Main street, being that now occupied by Thomson's barber shop. / He was the father of ten children, seven of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by two sons William of this place, and Emmanuel of the South, and four daughters Mrs. Anna Clark, of Columbus, Mrs. Edward Hodgson and Mrs. Josh Peart of this place, and Mrs. Edward Davis of Hemlock. Mr. Foster was a good old man, a good old citizen highly esteemed by all who knew him."
A letter was written to Emmanuel Foster (son of Jabez) in Lawrenceburg, TN, in the 1920's by Emmanuel's sister, Mrs. Edward Davis, then living in Hemlock, Perry Co., OH. It reads: "Hemlock, Ohio 192_ Sunday nite / Dear brother and all we have been a little uneasy about you as we havent heard anything from you. Janie Cocke Moore, Corning, OH, went to Shawnee Cem. on behalf of Joe Roberson to look for graves of Jabez and family. She found the graves and sent information 15 Sep 2001, saying the monument was very tall. The 1880 census shows Jabez and family living in Grant, Jackson, KS. It showed Jabez age 53, "Annie" 52, Manuel 18, and Charles 10. The LDS site shows a Jabez Forester christened 12 Aug 1827 in Newchapel, Staffordshire, England.
In July 2003 Joe Roberson visited the cemetery where he saw the graves of his great, great, grandparents Jabez and Hannah. One side of the tombstone had the names of Jabez and Hannah; the other side read William, Margaret, and son William, along with the dates for all. The 1841 England census shows Jabez and nine other siblings.
