Funeral services for H. W. Grady, 62, of Abernathy will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Martin officiating.

Military graveside rites will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery with services under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy.

Mr. Grady died at his home Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006.

He was born Jan. 30, 1944 in Corpus Christi to Henry and Ruth Grady. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1961 until 1969, serving in Vietnam from 1965 until 1968. He earned numerous medals during his service, including three Good Conduct Medals. He was a Purple Heart Recipient and he earned Rifle and Pistol Expert Badges.

He married Linda Bankston on Sept. 16, 1984 in Rotan, where they lived until moving to Abernathy in 1987. He served as Chief of Police in Rotan and Abernathy for ten years in each city. He served as a Hale County Deputy Sheriff from 1997 until his death. He was a member of the Law Enforcement Association and served on the Abernathy City Council. He was a Baptist.

He is survived by: his wife, Linda Grady of Abernathy; three sons, Michael Grady of Richland Hills, Harlan Grady of Hurst, and Jeremy Grady of Abernathy; a daughter, Sarah Grady of Abernathy; three granddaughters, Alicia, Summer, and Kaydence (Kady); two grandsons, Ryan and Hunter; one step-brother, Terry Stanford; two half brothers, Dusty Grady and Russell Grady; two half-sisters, Alma Joyce Stone and Jamie Sue Riley; and step-mother, Ada Grady.
