Solomon was the son of Solomon Spoon & Hannah Cooney (Kuney). He was born about 1832.

Solomon married:
(1) Almira Melvina Palmer on 5 May 1853 in Wyandot Co., OH. She died in 1873 and is buried in an unmarked grave at Old Mission Cemetery in Wyandot Co.
(2) Sarah F. Howell Payne Hatcher about 28 Feb 1885 in Paragould, Greene Co., AR; they separated before his death

Solomon & Almira had one son, David Franklin "Frank."

Solomon's obituary includes: " Mr. Spoon was a member of Company K, Fifty-fifth O.V.I., during the Civil War and marched with Sherman to the sea. For some years past, Mr. Spoon had aimlessly traveled over the country and had been in many foreign climes."
