Louie "Lou" Smith, age 55, a life long resident of Lake Station, IN, passed away suddenly on Friday, March 18, 2022.

Lou was born on May 10, 1966 in Gary, IN to the late John and Tillie (nee Young) Smith. He worked as a seal coater all his life. Lou's passion was music. He could play any instrument but was a "one man band", playing the guitar and piano as well as singing. Lou was a social butterfly and the life of the party. He was very loyal and loved his children and grandchildren deeply. Lou was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend who will be missed by all.

Lou is survived by his children: Louie Smith of Lake Station, IN, John (Billy) Smith of Michigan City, IN, Chris (Marie) Smith of Lake Station, IN, Joyce (Bryce) Smith of Westville, IN, Dana (Brain) Smith of Winamac, IN, Jayme (Daniel) Bogaski of Chesterton, IN, Saydee Rose Smith, Tina Smith, Hannah Smith, and Mary Smith all of Lake Station, IN; sister: Joyce "Gypsie" Smith of Lake Station, IN; grandchildren: Louie Jr., Alister, Therrin, Presley, Brydon, Avalynn, Scarlett, Kaitee, Anna, Breyonna, Ava, Eliza, Rebecca, Wesson, Leon, and Jake Jr.; and nephew: Joshwa Smith.

Lou is preceded in death by his parents: John and Tillie and brothers: Harry and John Jr. Smith.

Family and friends may gather at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel (600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart) on Friday, March 25, 2022 from 11:00-12:00. A funeral service will follow starting at 12:00 P.M. Cremation will follow.
