German Colnel who was a passenger aboard the zepplin Hindenburg. He had been Chief of the German Air Corps School at Halle. Then, in April of 1937, he was appointed Chief of the newly formed "Special Intelligence" division of the Luftwaffe. His responsibilities dealt with internal security and enemy capabilities. In Berlin on the morning of May 3 (the Hindenburg's date of departure), the Colonel had a meeting with a Major Hufschmidt of the S.S. Also in attendance were First Lieutenant Klaus Hinkelbein and Major Franz Hugo Witt. The three men were warned that a sabotage attempt on the airship was possible, and that they would be posted aboard as "observers". He was killed when the Hindenburg burst into flames while landing in Lakehurst New Jersey.
