Mrs. David S. Akin

Ethel Podvin, widow of David Sanford Akin, died Monday afternoon at 4:50 o'clock at her home, 10 Brandt Place, where she resided with her mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Sanford Akin. She had been ill for a long time.

Born in Amsterdam July 8. 1887, a daughter of Napoleon and Ann McGuire Podvin. Mrs. Akin passed all her life as a resident of this city.

Her marriage to David S. Akin took place October 8, 1908, and he died in 1918 while serving in the armed forces of the United States during World War I.

Mrs. Akin was a member of St. Joseph's Church and the Christian Mothers' Society of that church. She was also a member of James T. Bergen Post 39, American Legion Auxiliary. Possessed, of an appealing personality and many kindly traits, she was held in esteem by all who knew her, and a wide circle of friends will regret to learn of her death.

The survivors are one sister, Mrs. Clarence Wilkes, Troy; one brother, James Podvin, who resides in California; also several nieces and nephews, in addition to her mother-in-law.

Mrs. Mary P. Wilkes

Mrs. Mary Podvin Wilkes, former resident of Amsterdam, died Friday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harold E. Gibbons, Troy, following a short illness. She was born in this city and lived here the greater part of her life. While in Amsterdam, she was a member of St. Joseph's Church and in Troy she attended the Sacred Heart Church. Mrs. Wilkes' death follows that of her sister, Mrs. David S. Akin, this city, by a week.

In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Wilkes is survived by one son, Herbert J. Wilkes, Gloversville.

The funeral will be held in Amsterdam Tuesday morning and Interment will be in Fair View Cemetery.
