Mrs. Sarah Chapman, wife of Willis Chapman, passed away at her home Monday morning, January 15, 1923 at 4 o'clock. She had been afflicted with heart trouble for several days. She was born in Gallatin County, October 16, 1837; was the oldest daughter of Martha and Noel Robinson. She was united in marriage to John A. Chapman on October 1, 1856. To this union three children were born: John Noel, William Dudley and Thomas Omer. Her husband and Thomas Omer departed this life several years ago.
She united in marriage to Willis Chapman on June 27, 1869. To this union three children were born: Leonard Forrest, Anna Bell, and Mary Frances.
At the time of her death she was 85 years, 2 months, and 29 days old.
She is survived by her husband, two daughters and three sons; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; three brothers; and one sister.
She was the grandmother of Rev. J. Griffin Chapman of Toyoko, Japan and Rev. J. Elbert Chapman of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Funeral services were conducted from the Mt. Zion Baptist Church on WSednesday, January 17, 1923, by Rev. A. K. Johnson and the pastor, Rev. R. H. Tolle.
Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
