Joy was born in Rock County, Wisconsin as the youngest child of May Etta Jane Thompson Lowry and John McCann Lowry.
Her maternal grandparents were from Canada. Her paternal grandparents were Robert and Mary nee McCann Lowry of County Down, Ireland. Her father immigrated from Ireland in the 1866 with his parents and her uncle Robert, uncle David, Uncle Henry, and Aunt Mary(Mcmaster). Her oldest aunt Ellen Jane Lowry(Davidson) immigrated a number of years after the families located to Rock County and then relocation to Alexandria, South Dakota.
She moved with her mother to Denver, Colorado during her parents separation/divorce-
She was preceded in death by several cousins- Howard(Maud Mcmaster/Mary AliceLowry's grandson) Allen of Alexandria, SD and Mary(Lowry)Mcmaster -second grandchild of Mary McCann/RobertLowry) and an older sibling Loammie Lowry in Janesville in February 1886.
Her mother joined her into eternity six years later being together with family at the cemetery.
