Funeral for Distinguished Citizen
Held Sunday With Masonic Burial at Jamestown

Godfrey Roesch was born in Canton Berne, Switzerland, May 9, 1849, and died October 30, 1936, at the age of 87 years 5 months and 21 days, at his home in Jamestown.

He came to America in 1852 with his parents and they located in Ohio. His father died a short time later and when 6 years old he came with his mother and family by boat to Missouri, and they located about a mile east of Jamestown. An interesting incident of the trip as told by Mr. Roesch was his rememberence of being met at Sandy Hook by a team of oxen, and he seemed to enjoy telling this.

September 11, 1873 he married Caroline Nickles and located on a farm 3 miles northeast of Jamestown. To them 9 children born: Ella, Millie, Carl, Maggie, John P., Frank, James, Alma and Brownie. Four of these have died. Mrs. John Dahler, who was a resident of California, died a few years ago.

Mr. Roesch was a thrifty, prosperous farmer, kind and loving to his family, and a good neighbor and friend. He has seen lots of hardship during his life but was always jolly and good natured about it. He had been very active and able to go after his mail until the past year, when his memory failed him and he would get lost.

April 15, 1915, he married Mrs. Margaret Lichti. He was a member of the Jamestown Methodist church and Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Roesch and 5 children; John [........] ; James of this place; Mrs. Alma Cheatham of Lees Summit and Mrs. Brownie Moore of Lupus; also 15 grand children and 5 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Jacob Roesch of Norman, Okla; 3 step children: Mrs. Emma Bottomly of Kansas City; Mrs. Sophia Carver of Sedalia and John Lichti of Jamestown.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Grace M. E. church conducted by Rev. R. J. Hicks and the Masons held thier ritual at the grave. Burial was in the church cemetery. Flower girls were Missses Evelyn and Juanita Roesch, Martha Roesch and Miss Cheatham. Pallbearers were Jake and Joe and Raymond Haldiman, Wm. Dahler, Louis Weisser and Jake Haldiman Sr.

The family wishes to thank their and friends for kindness and sympathy extended them during their sad bereavement.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were: Frank Roesch and family of Jefferson City; Mose Cheatham and family, Lees Summit; Joe Hickam and son Godfrey and wife of California; Mrs. Elias Gradolph and Jack Berry and Lewis Roth of St. Louis; Mr. and Mrs. Bottomly of Kansas City, and Earl Carver and family of Sedalia, John Dahler and family of California.

Saw Lincoln Buried

G. Roesch of Jamestown was in California last week, the guest of his daughter, Mrs. John Dahler. Mr. Roesch was in Linn township during the war times, and says the Lincoln vote was very light in that precinct. Mr. Roesch saw the burial ceremony of the Martyred President.
