DYER, Joan age 78, of Oxford, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2009 at Hospice of Hamilton. She was born February 4, 1931 in Palestine, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph Rosco and Pauline May (Wesley) McDade. She was a 1948 graduate of New Lebanon High School and graduated from Asbury College in 1953. From 1953 to 1955 she was a Methodist Missionary in the United States. On July 1, 1955 she married Winford Ivan Dyer and he preceded her in death on September 29, 1990. Joan taught in the Charter Oak School district from 1967 to 1971 and retired from Hamilton City Schools in 1996. Joan was an avid reader, loved collecting children's books, enjoyed gardening and cooking. Joan is survived by two daughters, Mary (Chuck) Davis and Ruth (Scott) Bassett; granddaughters, Zoe, Hannah, Mariah Davis and Lydia Bassett; sister Judy McDade Strickland and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Wesley Dyer; granddaughter, Katherine Joann Bassett; sister, Jean McDade Taylor and brother, Paul McDade. Visitation will be held from 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at the Smith & Ogle Funeral Home, 5086 College Corner Pike, Oxford. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 on Friday, September 18th at Grace Pointe Church, Oxford.
