Cyrus Wallace Vandevort was born on April 6, 1865 in Cranberry Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, and he was the son of James Edgar Vandevort (1829–1913) and his wife Mary "Margaret" (Landis) Vandevort (1834–1927).

He was married 1st to Harriette Tennessee Taylor (1867–1925) on March 17, 1888 in Lake County, Illinois, and she was the daughter of John Edward Taylor (1835–1906) and Mary Catherine Harrison (Cullum) Taylor (1842–1912). He was married 2nd in 1932 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee as the 2nd husband of Mattie Eunice (Braswell) (Keel) (Vandevort) Owen (1902–1974).

Retired from Standard Oil Company and living at 1516 Arthur Avenue in Nashville, Chrus was 72 years old and married when he died on August 6, 1937 at Nashville General Hospital of bilateral pulmonary tuberculosis.

Survivors included his widow Mrs Mattie Eunice Vandevort, daughters Mrs George Gebhardt and Miss Mildred Louise Vandevort, sons Thomas C Vandevort in California and William C Vandevort of Nashville, sisters Mrs Frances Jackson, Mrs George Arnold, Mrs Vallie Richardson, Mrs Bub Johnson and Mrs Alfred Richardson.

Funeral Services were held on August 7th at the home of his daughter Mrs George Gebhardt at 1022 Monroe Street, and burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville, with Graveside Services being arranged by East Nashville Lodge #560 F & AM, and in which Cyrus was a Master Mason.
