Stephen R. Leslie, age 75, of Marinette, WI, passed away, surrounded by his family, on January 20, 2020. He was born January 30, 1944, the son of the late George Allen and Katherine L. (Bergeson) Leslie.

He grew up on his parent's dairy farm on Leslie Road in the Town of Grover.
He attended elementary school at the Homestead School at the corner of Bridge and Homestead Roads and graduated from Peshtigo High School in 1962.
As a youth he was active in 4H, track and field, football, Letter Club, and Trees for Tomorrow.

Steve served his country in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1967, achieving the rank of Machinist Mate 2nd Class Petty Officer.
He went to Dive School, qualified as a scuba diver, and was a plank owner of the ballistic missile submarine USS James Madison (SSBN-627).
He served again for the Wisconsin National Guard in Co C 1st 632d Armor Marinette as a Sergeant from 1978 to 1981.
After returning from active military duty, he moved to a property adjacent to his parent's farm and lived there until 2017. Over the years he was employed at Scott Paper, Ansul and Tyco.

Steve enjoyed wood and stone working throughout his life, creating many memorable projects. One of his most memorable was engineering and directing the construction of the natural playground at Peshtigo Elementary School in 1980.

Steve enjoyed many outdoor activities including, taking great pride in his flower gardens and care of his yard, riding his motorcycle, bicycling, golfing with his family and participating in various golf tournaments in which he received several awards. He was a member of the planning committee of the Menominee River Century Bicycle ride for many years. In his later years he enjoyed riding with his brother Dan.

Steve's love for canoeing was passed on to his sons, taking them on numerous canoe trips and organizing white water rafting events with family and friends. He was successful in many canoe races teaming up with Everett Crozier, and also raced with his then wife, Jill (Wright) Leslie.

Steve is survived by his wife Marlene Dorothy (Mundt) Leslie;
sons: Jeffrey and Perry (Amber);
grandsons, Logan & Slade;
2 brothers: John and Dan (Rosie) Leslie;
mother of his children: Jill (Wright) Leslie;
Marlene's children: Dan (Renee) McDermott, Kathy (Dale) Lueskow, and Kelly McDermott;
Step-grandchildren: Michael Kiekhofer Jr, Laura (Eric) Hettmann, Kate (Lexi) Woodward, Lily Bergey, Amanda McDermott, Jordan and Dakota (Melissa) Lueskow;
9 Step-great grandchildren.

Along with his parents Steve was preceded in death by his sister-in-law Judy ( Mrs. John, nee Krause) Leslie; granddaughter Hunter Ferdinand; and step-son Michael McDermott.

Visitation will be held February 16, 2020, at Berth & Rosenthal Funeral Home from noon until time of services at 2:00 pm with Chaplain Archer Leupp officiating. Burial wth military honors, will be held Sunday, June 14, 2020, at 4 p.m., for Stephen at the Harmony Cemetery.
