Lyla Kouba was born December 24, 1936 at Forest River, ND the daughter of Albert and Marie (Ruzicka) Schanilec. She grew up in Minto, ND and graduated from Minto High School in 1954. She worked for Walman Optical in Grand Forks. She married Frank Kouba at St. Michaels Catholic Church, Grand Forks on July 6, 1959. She then worked at the East Side Bottle Shop for a number of years and then as a stay at home mom.
She is preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, Cyrilla "Tiny" Ward and 1 brother Vern Schanilec.
She was a member of the Twin Forks Chapter of the Sweet Adelines and also sang in the Sounds Delightful Quartet and held many offices with that group.
