David was born at the family home on Cabin Creek, to Gottlieb F. and Dorthea (Stickel) Strobel on August 22, 1922. He was their 9th of 13 children. David attended rural school grades one through eight and graduated from Terry High School in Terry, MT. He then attended Billings Business College studying cost accounting.

In the 1940's, David returned to the farm to work with his father and two brothers, Ted and Harold. In Terry, David played baseball and was a pitcher for the Lions Baseball Club. At this time, he met a local Terry teacher, Dorothy E. Wennemar; they were married on June 10, 1951 in Fallon, MT. They began their life together on the farm/ranch on Cabin Creek. Of this union, three children were born; Pamela Marie (1952), Mary Ellen (1954) and Lester (1956).

David loved farming and ranching and purchased the family farm/ranch from his parents. He managed the farmland and a head of commercial Black Angus cattle. Friends and acquaintances driving past the ranch/farm could often see the shop door open to find David repairing something. He was always ready to take time for a visit, which usually happened on a daily basis.

David served as president of the Prairie County Farm Bureau and served on the Conservation Board. He enjoyed bowling and was secretary of the Ash Creek Roping Club and Cabin Creek Rural Fire District. David was one of the original members on the Mid-Rivers Telephone Board. He was a member of the National Cattlemen's Association, Montana Stockgrowers Association and the Fallon Evangelical Church.

David's death came after complications of pneumonia. He is happily ranching and farming with our Lord and Savior in heaven or he could be playing baseball.

David is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy; daughter Pamela and Dale Bilyou of Ballantine, MT; daughter Mary Ellen Swanson and her children Lyn and David Michael of Farrbanks, Alaska and son Lester of Terry, MT and his children Justin (Glendive) and April (Colorado Springs, CO); siblings, Helen (Don Doyle of Boise, ID, Erna (Orvelle) Thompson of Davis, CA. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law Stasia Gerrells of Billings, MT and Pauline Carrick of Cheyenne, WY and a special nephew, John Gerrells of Thermopolis, WY. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Ted, Bill, Arndt, Dick, Max, Tope, Reuben, Mariam, Rachel and Harold.
