The daughter of John Langdon Lewis and Martha Caroline Smith; born in Minden, Webster parish, Louisiana. Mary married William S. Waller on January 7, 1868 in Claiborne [later a portion of this parish became a part of Webster parish] parish, Louisiana. They lived in Chicago or suburbs of Chicago until W. S. Waller's death at the age of 36 in 1874. She inherited his estate and was living with his parents and siblings in 1880 during the census. In 1900 she was enumerated as a pupil at the Holy Ghost and Us Bible School, a controversial religious organization located in Durham, Maine. She outlived her brothers William S. Lewis, Robert Smith Lewis and sister Eliza Lewis Harper.
