John Hoffman, 75, who had been in poor health a number of years resulting from a complication of ailments, died at 6:50 o'clock last night at his home, 111 W. Eleventh street, after being confined to his bed the past six months.
Mr. Hoffman was born in Germany Sept. 20, 1868, and came to America when he was 19 years old, settling immediately in this vicinity. He farmed in the Town of Marshfield until about 2½ years ago, and since that time had resided in the City of Marshfield.
His marriage to Rose Heintz took place Nov. 24, 1902, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hewitt.
Surviving besides his widow are 10 children, Mrs. Emery (Clara) Jenkins, Marshfield; Mrs. Frank (Mathilda) Gauger, Wausau; Mrs. Theodore (Elsie) Huth, Hewitt; Joseph Hoffman, route 2, Marshfield; Mrs. Steve (Marie) Arts, Rudolph; Anton Hoffman, route 5, Marshfield; Alois Hoffman, route 1, Marshfield; Mrs. Victor (Hildegard) Arts, Wisconsin Rapids; Pvt. Gerhard Hoffman, Fort Lewis, Wash.; and Pvt. Robert Hoffman, somewhere in the South Pacific. Gerhard is expected home to attend the funeral.
Also surviving are two brothers, William of Hewitt and Ambrose of Curtiss. and 12 grandchildren.
The body will lie in state at the Rembs Funeral Home beginning Sunday noon and continuing until the time of the funeral services Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. The Rev. Leander Koopman will officiate at the Requiem High Mass, and burial will be made in Hillside cemetery.
A rosary service for Mr. Hoffman will be conducted at the funeral home Monday evening at 8 o'clock.
