Generalmajor der Infanterie and Commander Wehrmacht Operations Staff. He volunteered for Army Service in the 8th Infantry Regiment in 1925. He was assigned to the German General Staff in 1937, and was in the General Staff of High Command XXXV at the outbreak of war. He fought on the Eastern Front, was wounded in 1942 and assigned to the Führer Reserve. After his injury, he rose to the rank of Major General and served on the Army General Staff in Adolf Hitler’s headquarters. His last command was as Chief of Army Operations Department in the Wehrmacht Operations Staff. He was arrested in 1945 and held until 1948 in an American Prisoner of War Camp. His awards were the German Cross in Gold, and the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross.
